Public art, on display at Pike Place Public Market, across from Victor Steinbrueck Park. Part of the Nutcracker March public art project.
The Pacific Northwest Ballet Nutcracker March, http://www.nutcrackermarch.org/, is a Downtown public art project that has placed fifty Nutcrackers--each designed by area artists and organizations--throughout the downtown Seattle area. The Nutcrackers will be available to the public through an on-line auction with all proceeds going directly to benefit Northwest Center. For nearly 40 years, Northwest Center has made a difference in the lives of thousands of children and adults with disabilities. Artist's statement"Where The Children Play" This Nutcracker adorned with children playing shows freedom, fun, and happiness. The brightly colored sun gives us a sense of hope, while the leafy patterned clothing brings the observer a little closer to nature. A grand statue that represents peace and comfort for all to enjoy. Stacey Sterling Inspiration behind the NutcrackerBy Stacey Sterling Thanks to Pike Place Market for this opportunity to create this Nutcracker for NWC. When I was approached with this project proposal, I knew I wanted to incorporate children and nature: a bold statue holding up the earth with its best representatives. The children playing on top of the prince is a symbol of strength they need and gives all a sense of freedom, fun, and happiness. While the brightly painted sun represents hope, the leafy patterned clothing has a whimsical touch and brings the observer closer to nature. What a great feeling to create a piece of art for all to enjoy and to benefit a great cause. |
